ESEC/FSE 2020 will take place in Sacramento, California, USA.
Sacramento is the capital of the state of California, which if measured as a separate country would be the 5th largest economy in the world. It is home to the technology hub of Silicon Valley in the San Francisco Bay Area, a 2 hour drive from Sacramento and the world famous wine regions of Napa and Sonoma Valleys a little more than an hours drive from the city. The University of California at Davis is a short 20 minute drive and the University of California at Berkeley is in the Bay Area as is Stanford University. Of course the city of San Francisco, was established in 1776 as a settlement by the Spanish when the area was still ruled by Spain. The city of San Jose is home to the Computer History Museum. For those who may want to explore before or after the conference, Sacramento is a 1 hour plane ride from LA, the entertainment capital of the world.
The city of Sacramento is located at the confluence of two major rivers as they flow from the Sierra Nevadas to the San Francisco bay and still serves as a seaport. The city became world famous for the center of the gold rush in 1848 when flecks of gold were found in the American River when Sutter’s Mill was being built. The deposits were found less than 2 hours drive from Sacramento in Sierra Nevada, sierra being the Spanish word for mountain range. Also along this mountain range is the popular resort town of Lake Tahoe, about a 2 hour drive up the mountain, and the famous Yosemite National Park a four hour drive south east. As a city with a metropolitan population of over 1 million, it has a thriving entertainment industry including good restaurants, night clubs, museums, shopping and sporting events.
